AVE AVIS – Morituri te salutant

Entre 18 propuestas presentadas, también seleccionaron al artista de collage contemporáneo Cless y al artista Jorge Peligro. El título del proyecto hace alusión a una cita narrada en una historia de Suetonio del año 52, en la que unos criminales destinados a morir en combate como gladiadores saludaban al emperador diciendo:
¡Hola Cesar! Los que van a morir te saludan.
Con Ave Avis, Doctor Pek y yo saludamos a las aves y reflexionamos sobre si éste podría ser el principio del fin de la existencia humana.

Los hábitats naturales de muchos pájaros se han ido reduciendo debido a la intensificación de la agricultura y las nuevas construcciones. Las ciudades también pueden ser un refugio para las aves, los pájaros además de ser animales fascinantes ayudan a la polinización, controlan las plagas y dispersan semillas.

El objetivo de Ave Avis es hacer un hueco en la ciudad a pequeños voladores con la construcción de viviendas y comederos de madera para gorriones, golondrinas, petirrojos, colibrís, etc. También pretende hacer un hueco en nuestra conciencia, de manera que al ver estas construcciones dentro de la ciudad recordemos que no estamos solos, que convivimos con otras especies y que esto, de alguna manera, despierte el interés por comprender el mundo natural.

Doctor Pek y yo diseñamos, construimos e instalamos tres piezas diferentes a modo de “hoteles” con diferentes habitáculos para pequeñas aves.
